Penrhiw Farm Dispatch June 10th 2020

Hello. It seems an age since our last email update.  Life on the farm continues very much as usual.  We all work pretty much in isolation anyway and the farming calendar rumbles on regardless of what is happening in the big wide world.  What is affecting the farms is the DRY weather.  We are desperate for rain - there will be very little hay and the arable crops are poor.  There is no fresh lush green grass for the cows and sheep.  On Fforest, cattle are eating what was supposed to be growing for second cut silage; thank goodness, at Penrhiw we have some damp meadows where there is something for the cows and calves to chew on.  We are hoping there will be some significant rain at the end of this week.

The markets side is all very different - we have been delivering to our loyal customers since March.  We will continue to do this even though the Cardiff markets are starting back.  We are NOT going to attend the markets for the time being.  You, our customers, overwhelmingly told us you wanted the deliveries to continue and we have listened.  In Usk, there is a pre-order system in place which seems to be working well.  We will also continue with the local deliveries and customers are still very welcome to call at the farm.

For those who don't see the Facebook page, we are delighted with the safe arrival of 2 foals - Nero and Florrie  - updates on their progress will undoubtedly follow in time !!!

Take care all and keep safe

From the team at Penrhiw
